AmLife Advocates "Better Sleep, Better Life, Better Planet" As It Celebrates World Sleep Day 2020

Beginning your day with a good night's sleep is extremely important as it has the potential to lower your risk of injury while improving efficiency. Besides eating a healthy, balanced diet and regular exercise, a good night's sleep is equally important for optimal health. Getting adequate deep sleep can also strengthen our immune system. For the fifth year in a row, AmLife International Sdn Bhd returned with its World Sleep Day tribute. Co-hosted by the World Sleep Society, AmLife presented a sleep health showcase at Palace of the Golden Horses to members of the media recently.

This year, AmLife is spearheading the movement with its tagline, "Life, Redefined," to enable Malaysians achieve better health through better sleep, thus redefining their lives. According to Mr Lew Mun Yee, Founder & President of AmLife, sleep education is not only close to our hearts and our business philosophy, but is increasingly important as sleep disorders are escalating in the region.

"Together with World Sleep Society, AmLife is hosting a sleep showcase which includes sleep workshops and demos in 3 key countries namely Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan this year," said Mr Lew.

Did you know according to a survey by the World Health Organization, 27% of people have sleep problems in 14 countries? In fact, there is a growing trend in sleep disorders with an increasing number of affected population in the country according to World Sleep Association. 35% Malaysians suffer from some sort of sleeping disorders with 9 out of 10 Malaysians have some level of insomnia. Meanwhile, more than 53 per cent of Malaysia's workforce gets less than the minimal 7 hours sleep in a 24 hour period with at least 51 per cent suffering from work-related stress.

Ms. Rosemary Clancy, Clinical Psychologist in Sydney Sleep Centre and a Registered Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) shared on how sleeping pill habit evolves and its long-term effect.

Sleep deprivation can be deadly! The lack of sleep not only affect your immune system, but it also increases your risk of stroke, obesity, cancer and coronary artery heart disease. Besides the right sleeping environment, the right food can help promote better sleep too.

Mr. Kerwin Chen, Nutritionist/Food Researcher shared his insights on achieving quality sleep thru proper dietary nutrition and home-cooked recipes. These three nutrients are crucial for a healthy beauty sleep :
  1. Calcium - Relax muscles and nerves, improve sleep quality and help the brain turns tryplophan to melatonin.
  2. Serotonin - Increase melatonin production.
  3. Anthocyanin - Boosting immunity.
