Toy Bank - A Gift of Love for 400 Children @ Cheras LeisureMall
Still remember the giant Toy Bank at Cheras LeisureMall I've blogged before? The Toy Bank had been set up on the GF concourse since 4 December 2015 to collect gifts of love for the children from the participating children's homes and charity houses.
Colourful wish cards bearing three of the children's Christmas wishes were displayed at the wishing trees around the giant Toy Bank. Pick a card from the wishing tree, select a toy or gift from the child's wish list and then deposit the gift with the wish card at the Toy Bank.
165 children from the participating children's homes have a memorable Christmas celebration at Cheras LeisureMall and receive the gifts sent by anonymous true love at the gift presentation ceremony. The children are from Shepherd's Centre Foundation, Trinity Community Children's Home, Persatuan Kebajikan Warga Tua Dan Kanak-Kanak WP, Pusat Jagaan Beribuan Kasih Kajang, Bodhi Homecare Cheras, San Pedro Orphanage Home, Rumah Sayangan, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Angels, Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Cornerstone, Yayasan Sunbeams Home, Rainbow Home, Rumah Bakti Nur Syaheera and Pusat Majudiri Y for the Deaf.
They are treated to a sumptuous lunch too.
Earlier of the day, they also enjoy a special movie screening by Golden Screen Cinemas - Legend of a Rabbit : The Martial of Fire.

White Ribbon Run by All Women's Society (AWAM) @ Padang Merbok

On a fine Sunday morning, I joined White Ribbon Run at Padang Merbok with a few of my friends. For the third time, All Women's Action Society (AWAM) held White Ribbon Run to emphasize Gender-Based Violence (GBV)and Violence Against Women (VAW) are not solely women’s rights issues, they are human rights issues and we should all be involved in addressing it. Men and boys of all ages and walks of life came together at the White Ribbon Run to break a “Chain of Violence”, to symbolise the breaking down of the violence and varying burdens women have to deal with on a daily basis.
Through the White Ribbon Campaign, AWAM hopes to generate awareness, and provide a platform where men can break their silence and proactively engage on the issue of violence against women. With over 1000 participation, the theme for this year is “The Story of a Generation”.
Apart from bringing awareness to the public through events such as the White Ribbon Campaign, AWAM also conducts trainings and workshops on gender-based violence issues, offers free counselling and legal information services, as well as does advocacy and law reform work.
Congrats to the lucky draw winner who won the Grand Prize of 4 Days 3 Nights trip aboard the Superstar Gemini sponsored by Star Cruise.
The White Ribbon Campaign is the world’s largest movement of men and boys working to end violence against women and girls, promote gender equality, healthy relationships and a new vision of masculinity. The movement began in 1989 following the tragic shooting incident resulting in the death of 14 female engineering students in Montreal, Canada. The White Ribbon Campaign seeks to change attitudes and behaviours that lead to and perpetuate violence against women by engaging boys and men to lead social change.
Thanks to the many sponsors, staff, and volunteers who worked incredibly hard to bring this event to life. Break the silence, end the violence against women. Support! Support!

'Christmas From The Heart' @ Cheras LeisureMall
This Christmas, Cheras LeisureMall unveils its theme for the season – ‘Christmas From The Heart’. Even as the mall is transformed into a glimmering wonderland, the celebration bears deeper significance as shoppers and the community are invited to participate in the annual “Toy Bank – A Gift of Love” programme from now until 27th December 2015. This annual charity campaign allows shoppers, well-wishers and generous members of the public to bring smiles to underprivileged children’s faces by fulfilling their wishes.
“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children,” said the late President Nelson Mandela at the launch of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. Indeed children are every society’s treasures and our best hope for the future. Therefore with open hearts, we should love and care for them, as well as provide for them with our best. As we celebrate the season of joy in giving, let us also take some time to remember the children that are less fortunate. Let us find it in our hearts to give them a ray of sunshine, so that they too, will shine bright in the future.
To be part of this meaningful cause, willing parties can first pick a card from the wishing tree, select a toy or gift from child’s wish list and then deposit the gift together with the wish card at the Toy Bank located at Ground Floor Concourse. Alternatively, you can donate household items such as rice, cooking oil, toiletries, canned food, detergent and school books to the homes.
The children from the respective orphanages and charity organizations will be at Cheras LeisureMall on 29 December 2015 to receive the gifts after a fun-filled day at the mall.
“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine...” Just as the famous children’s song goes, Cheras LeisureMall encourages everyone to share their little light this Christmas. Christmas can be so much more than a festive holiday. Together, let’s make Christmas a heartwarming season that encompasses great love and joy.
